Dosage Information

Adult Dose

For mucolytic use, the typical adult dose is 600 mg to 1200 mg per day, divided into two or three doses. For acetaminophen overdose, the loading dose is 140 mg/kg, followed by 70 mg/kg every 4 hours for 17 doses.

Pediatric Dose

For children, the mucolytic dose is generally 10 mg/kg to 20 mg/kg per day, divided into two or three doses. For acetaminophen overdose, the dosing is similar to adults but should be adjusted based on the child's weight and clinical guidelines.

Side Effects

Common side effects include gastrointestinal disturbances (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea), rash, and allergic reactions (urticaria, angioedema). Rarely, it may cause bronchospasm in asthmatic patients.

Contraindications & Precautions

Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to acetylcysteine or any component of the formulation. Caution is advised in patients with asthma or a history of bronchospasm.
