Dosage Information
Adult Dose

Pediatric Dose
For children aged 6 months to 12 years, the typical dose is 7 mg/kg every 12 hours, with a maximum of 600 mg per day. The duration of treatment is usually 5 to 10 days, depending on the infection.
Side Effects
Common side effects include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, headache, abdominal pain, and rash. Less common side effects can include dizziness and yeast infections.
Contraindications & Precautions
Cefdinir is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to cefdinir or other cephalosporin antibiotics. Caution is advised in patients with a history of penicillin allergy due to potential cross-reactivity.
Important Warnings
Use with caution in patients with renal impairment, as dosage adjustment may be necessary. Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea has been reported with nearly all antibacterial agents, including cefdinir, and may range in severity from mild diarrhea to fatal colitis.
