About Cefpodoxime Proxetil
Class: | Third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic
Use: | Treatment of mild to moderate infections caused by susceptible strains of designated microorganisms, including acute otitis media, pharyngitis, sinusitis, bronchitis, uncomplicated skin infections, and uncomplicated urinary tract infections.
Adult dose: | 200 mg every 12 hours for 5 to 14 days, depending on the type and severity of the infection.
Pediatric dose: | For children aged 12 years and older, the adult dosing can be applied

Dosage Information
Adult Dose
200 mg every 12 hours for 5 to 14 days, depending on the type and severity of the infection.
Pediatric Dose
For children aged 12 years and older, the adult dosing can be applied. For children aged 2 months to 12 years, dosing is typically based on weight: 5 mg/kg every 12 hours, not to exceed 200 mg per dose.
Side Effects
Common side effects include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, headache, and rash.
Contraindications & Precautions
Contraindicated in patients with known allergy to cefpodoxime, other cephalosporins, or any component of the formulation. Use with caution in patients with a history of penicillin allergy.
Important Warnings
Use with caution in patients with renal impairment; dosage adjustment may be necessary. Clostridioides difficile-associated diarrhea (CDAD) has been reported with use. Discontinue if severe hypersensitivity reactions occur.
