About Formoterol Fumarate
Class: | Long-acting beta2-adrenergic agonist (LABA)
Use: | Used for the maintenance treatment of asthma and prevention of bronchospasm in patients with reversible obstructive airway disease, and for the prevention of exercise-induced bronchospasm. It is also used in the maintenance treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), including chronic bronchitis and emphysema.

Storage Requirements
Store at 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F). Protect from moisture and light. Keep capsules in the blister pack until ready for use.

Dosage Information
Adult Dose
For asthma and COPD: Inhale the contents of 1 capsule (12 mcg) twice daily (morning and evening). For exercise-induced bronchospasm: Inhale the contents of 1 capsule (12 mcg) at least 15 minutes before exercise.
Pediatric Dose
For children 5 years and older with asthma: Inhale the contents of 1 capsule (12 mcg) twice daily (morning and evening). For exercise-induced bronchospasm in children 5 years and older: Inhale the contents of 1 capsule (12 mcg) at least 15 minutes before exercise.
Side Effects
Common side effects include headache, tremor, nervousness, dizziness, insomnia, dry mouth, muscle cramps, and palpitations.
Contraindications & Precautions
Contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to formoterol or any of the capsule components. Not to be used for the relief of acute bronchospasm or in patients with status asthmaticus.
Important Warnings
LABAs, such as formoterol, increase the risk of asthma-related death. It should only be used as additional therapy for patients not adequately controlled on other asthma-controller medications. Not intended for use as a rescue therapy for acute symptoms. Use with caution in patients with cardiovascular disorders, seizure disorders, thyrotoxicosis, or diabetes mellitus.
