Dosage Information

Adult Dose

Loperamide: 2 mg after the first loose stool, followed by 1 mg after each subsequent loose stool, not to exceed 8 mg (4 tablets) in 24 hours. Simethicone: 125 mg as needed after meals and at bedtime, not to exceed 500 mg (4 tablets) in 24 hours.

Pediatric Dose

Loperamide: Not recommended for children under 6 years; for children 6-8 years, 1 mg after each loose stool, not to exceed 3 mg (1.5 tablets) in 24 hours. Simethicone: Consult a pediatrician for children under 12 years; generally, 40-125 mg after meals and at bedtime as needed.

Side Effects

Common side effects include constipation, dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, and abdominal discomfort.

Contraindications & Precautions

Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to either component, acute abdominal conditions, bacterial enterocolitis, pseudomembranous colitis, and in children under 6 years of age.

Important Warnings

Use with caution in patients with liver disease, as loperamide is metabolized in the liver. Not for use in cases of diarrhea caused by bacterial infections or antibiotic-associated colitis. Discontinue use if symptoms worsen or if abdominal distension occurs.
