Uses & Indications

Paracetamol is used for the relief of mild to moderate pain and to reduce fever. Metoclopramide is indicated for the treatment of nausea and vomiting, including that associated with migraine headaches, and for gastroparesis in diabetic patients.

Dosage Information

Adult Dose

Paracetamol: 500 mg to 1000 mg every 4 to 6 hours as needed, not to exceed 4000 mg per day. Metoclopramide: 10 mg to 20 mg taken 30 minutes before meals and at bedtime, not to exceed 40 mg per day.

Pediatric Dose

Paracetamol: 10-15 mg/kg every 4 to 6 hours as needed, not to exceed 5 doses in 24 hours. Metoclopramide: Not typically recommended for children under 1 year; for children 1-14 years, dosing is based on weight and should be determined by a healthcare provider.

Side Effects

Paracetamol: nausea, rash, headache, liver damage (with overdose). Metoclopramide: drowsiness, fatigue, restlessness, diarrhea, extrapyramidal symptoms (e.g., tardive dyskinesia with long-term use).

Contraindications & Precautions

Paracetamol: severe liver disease or active liver disease. Metoclopramide: known hypersensitivity to the drug, gastrointestinal obstruction, or perforation, and in patients with a history of tardive dyskinesia.

Important Warnings

Paracetamol: Risk of severe liver damage if taken in excessive doses. Metoclopramide: Use with caution in patients with a history of depression or those taking other medications that may cause CNS depression; long-term use may lead to tardive dyskinesia.
