About Physostigmine
Class: | Cholinesterase inhibitor
Use: | Reversal of anticholinergic toxicity, particularly from atropine or other anticholinergic agents; treatment of glaucoma; and in certain cases of myasthenia gravis.
Adult dose: | 1 to 2 mg IV slowly, may repeat every 10 to 15 minutes as needed; maximum total dose typically does not exceed 5 mg.
Pediatric dose: | 0.02 mg/kg IV slowly, may repeat every 10 to 15 minutes as needed; maximum total dose typically does not exceed 2 mg.

Contraindications & Precautions
Known hypersensitivity to physostigmine or other carbamate derivatives; history of asthma or other respiratory conditions; mechanical obstruction of the gastrointestinal or urinary tract; and seizures.
Important Warnings
Use with caution in patients with cardiac conduction abnormalities; may cause cholinergic crisis; monitor for signs of overdose, including excessive salivation, lacrimation, urination, diarrhea, gastrointestinal distress, and muscle twitching.
