About Diphenhydramine
Class: | Antihistamine (First-generation H1 antagonist)
Use: | Relief of symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis (hay fever) and other allergies, including sneezing, runny nose, itchy or watery eyes, and itching of the throat or nose. Also used for the treatment of motion sickness and as a nighttime sleep aid.

Dosage Information
Adult Dose
25-50 mg orally every 4-6 hours as needed; maximum dose should not exceed 300 mg per day.
Pediatric Dose
For children 6-11 years: 12.5 mg (5 ml) every 4-6 hours as needed; maximum 75 mg per day. For children 2-5 years: 6.25 mg (2.5 ml) every 4-6 hours as needed; maximum 37.5 mg per day. Not recommended for children under 2 years.

Contraindications & Precautions
Hypersensitivity to diphenhydramine or any component of the formulation; use in newborns or premature infants; caution in patients with glaucoma, asthma, or urinary retention.

May cause significant drowsiness; avoid alcohol and other CNS depressants. Use caution when driving or operating machinery. Not recommended for use in the elderly due to increased risk of anticholinergic effects.
