Dosage Information

Adult Dose

For erectile dysfunction: 2.5 to 60 mcg injected into the corpus cavernosum; for patent ductus arteriosus: 0.1 to 0.4 mcg/kg/min IV infusion; for pulmonary arterial hypertension: 2.5 to 10 mcg IV or subcutaneously, titrated as needed

Pediatric Dose

For maintenance of patent ductus arteriosus: 0.1 to 0.4 mcg/kg/min IV infusion, adjusted based on clinical response

Pain at injection site, flushing, headache, hypotension, nausea, diarrhea, and penile pain or priapism

Contraindications & Precautions

Hypersensitivity to alprostadil or any component of the formulation, conditions where sexual activity is inadvisable, and patients with certain cardiovascular conditions

Important Warnings

Risk of priapism; should be used with caution in patients with cardiovascular disease; may cause hypotension; not recommended for use in patients with a history of severe allergic reactions to alprostadil or other prostaglandins
