Uses & Indications

Ipratropium Bromide is indicated for the treatment of bronchospasm associated with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma. It is also used as a maintenance treatment for patients with COPD.

Dosage Information

Adult Dose

The typical adult dose is 500 mcg (2.0 mL of the 250 mcg/mL solution) via nebulization, administered 3 to 4 times daily as needed.

Pediatric Dose

For children aged 12 years and older, the dose is the same as for adults. For children aged 6 to 11 years, the recommended dose is 250 mcg (1.0 mL of the 250 mcg/mL solution) via nebulization, administered 3 to 4 times daily as needed. Use in children under 6 years should be determined by a physician.

Common side effects include dry mouth, cough, headache, dizziness, nausea, and gastrointestinal disturbances.

Contraindications & Precautions

Ipratropium Bromide is contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to ipratropium, atropine, or any of the product's components.

Important Warnings

Use with caution in patients with narrow-angle glaucoma, prostatic hypertrophy, or bladder neck obstruction. Not intended for acute bronchospasm; should not be used as a rescue medication.
