About Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride
Class: | Antihistamine (First-generation H1 receptor antagonist)
Use: | Treatment of allergic reactions, motion sickness, insomnia, and as a premedication for anesthesia; also used for the management of symptoms associated with Parkinson's disease and for the treatment of acute dystonic reactions.
Adult dose: | 25-50 mg administered intramuscularly or intravenously; may repeat every 4-6 hours as needed, not to exceed 300 mg/day.
Pediatric dose: | 1-2 mg/kg (up to 50 mg) administered intram

Dosage Information
Adult Dose

Pediatric Dose

Side Effects
Drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, blurred vision, constipation, urinary retention, and confusion (especially in the elderly).

Hypersensitivity to diphenhydramine or any component of the formulation; newborns; breastfeeding; and patients with severe asthma or respiratory issues.
Important Warnings
May cause significant sedation; caution in patients with glaucoma, urinary retention, or prostatic hypertrophy; use with caution in elderly patients due to increased risk of anticholinergic effects; may interact with other CNS depressants.
