About Fomepizol
Class: | Antidote, Alcohol Dehydrogenase Inhibitor
Use: | Treatment of methanol and ethylene glycol poisoning
Adult dose: | Initial: 15 mg/kg IV loading dose; Maintenance: 10 mg/kg IV every 12 hours for 4 doses, then 15 mg/kg every 12 hours if needed
Pediatric dose: | Initial: 15 mg/kg IV loading dose; Maintenance: 10 mg/kg IV every 12 hours for 4 doses, then 15 mg/kg every 12 hours if needed (same as adults)
Side effects: | Nausea, headache, dizziness, sedation, and injection site react
