About Promethazine Hydrochloride
Class: | Antihistamine (H1 receptor antagonist)
Use: | Treatment of allergic reactions, motion sickness, nausea and vomiting, and as a sedative
Adult dose: | 25 mg to 50 mg taken orally 30 to 60 minutes before travel for motion sickness; 12.5 mg to 25 mg for nausea and vomiting; 25 mg at bedtime for sedation
Pediatric dose: | For children 2 to 5 years: 6.25 mg; for children 6 to 12 years: 12.5 mg to 25 mg; use in children under 2 years is not recommended
Side effects: | Drowsiness, dizzi

Contraindications & Precautions
Hypersensitivity to promethazine or any component of the formulation; children under 2 years; severe respiratory depression; comatose states; and concurrent use with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs)

May cause severe respiratory depression in children; caution in patients with asthma, glaucoma, or urinary retention; avoid use in elderly patients due to increased risk of sedation and anticholinergic effects; use with caution in patients with cardiovascular disease.
