About Linezolid
Class: | Oxazolidinone antibiotic
Use: | Treatment of infections caused by susceptible strains of Gram-positive bacteria, including pneumonia, skin and soft tissue infections, and infections caused by vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium (VRE).
Adult dose: | 600 mg orally or intravenously every 12 hours for 10 to 14 days, depending on the type and severity of infection.
Pediatric dose: | For children and adolescents (birth to 11 years): 10 mg/kg orally or intravenously every 8 hours.

Dosage Information
Adult Dose
600 mg orally or intravenously every 12 hours for 10 to 14 days, depending on the type and severity of infection.
Pediatric Dose
For children and adolescents (birth to 11 years): 10 mg/kg orally or intravenously every 8 hours. Maximum dose should not exceed 600 mg per dose.
Side Effects
Common side effects include diarrhea, headache, nausea, vomiting, insomnia, and dizziness.
Contraindications & Precautions
Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to linezolid or any of its components. Caution in patients with uncontrolled hypertension, pheochromocytoma, thyrotoxicosis, or those taking serotonergic or adrenergic agents.
Important Warnings
Risk of myelosuppression, including anemia, leukopenia, pancytopenia, and thrombocytopenia, especially with prolonged use. Monitor complete blood counts weekly. Potential for serotonin syndrome when used with serotonergic drugs. Use with caution in patients with a history of seizures.
