Storage Requirements

Dosage Information
Adult Dose
The standard adult dose for pain and inflammation is 500 mg initially, followed by 250 mg every 6 to 8 hours as needed. The maximum daily dose should not exceed 1500 mg.
Pediatric Dose
Naproxen is not typically recommended for children under 12 years of age for over-the-counter use. For children 12 years and older, dosing should be determined by a healthcare provider, typically starting at 250 mg every 8 to 12 hours, not exceeding 1000 mg per day.
Side Effects
Common side effects include gastrointestinal issues such as nausea, heartburn, and stomach pain, as well as dizziness, headache, and drowsiness. Serious side effects may include gastrointestinal bleeding, hypertension, and renal impairment.
Contraindications & Precautions
Naproxen is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to naproxen or other NSAIDs, those with a history of asthma, urticaria, or allergic-type reactions after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs, and in the setting of coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery.
Important Warnings
Naproxen may increase the risk of serious cardiovascular thrombotic events, myocardial infarction, and stroke, which can be fatal. It may also cause serious gastrointestinal adverse events, including bleeding, ulceration, and perforation of the stomach or intestines. Use with caution in patients with a history of ulcer disease or gastrointestinal bleeding. Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration consistent with individual patient treatment goals.
