About Verapamil Hydrochloride
Class: | Calcium channel blocker (non-dihydropyridine)
Use: | Treatment of supraventricular tachycardia, control of ventricular rate in atrial fibrillation/flutter, and angina.
Adult dose: | Initial dose of 5-10 mg (0.075-0.15 mg/kg) administered as an intravenous bolus over at least 2 minutes. A second dose of 10 mg (0.15 mg/kg) may be given 15-30 minutes after the first if needed.
Pediatric dose: | Not typically recommended for pediatric use; consult a pediatric specialist for specific cases.

Dosage Information

Contraindications & Precautions
Severe left ventricular dysfunction, hypotension (systolic pressure <90 mmHg), cardiogenic shock, sick sinus syndrome (except in patients with a functioning artificial pacemaker), second- or third-degree AV block (except in patients with a functioning artificial pacemaker), and known hypersensitivity to verapamil.
Important Warnings
Use with caution in patients with impaired hepatic or renal function, heart failure, or those taking beta-blockers. Monitor blood pressure and heart rate during administration. Avoid abrupt withdrawal to prevent exacerbation of angina.
