Dosage Information

Adult Dose

For mucolytic use, the typical dose is 600 mg to 1200 mg per day, divided into 2 to 3 doses. For acetaminophen overdose, the loading dose is 140 mg/kg, followed by 70 mg/kg every 4 hours for a total of 17 doses.

Pediatric Dose

For mucolytic use in children, the usual dose is 10 mg/kg to 20 mg/kg per day, divided into 2 to 3 doses. For acetaminophen overdose, the dosing is similar to adults, but should be adjusted based on the child's weight and clinical condition.

Side Effects

Common side effects include gastrointestinal disturbances (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea), rash, and fever. Rarely, it may cause anaphylactic reactions or bronchospasm in sensitive individuals.
