Dosage Information

Adult Dose

2.5 mg of Diphenoxylate Hydrochloride with 0.025 mg of Atropine Sulfate, taken 3 to 4 times daily as needed, not to exceed 20 mg of Diphenoxylate per day

Pediatric Dose

Not recommended for children under 2 years; for children 2-12 years, the dose is typically 0.3 mg/kg/day of Diphenoxylate, divided into 3-4 doses, not to exceed 5 mg per dose

Side Effects

Drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, constipation, nausea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort

Contraindications & Precautions

Hypersensitivity to either component, diarrhea caused by bacterial infections, pseudomembranous colitis, obstructive jaundice, and in patients with severe liver disease

Risk of severe respiratory depression in children; potential for abuse and dependence; use caution in patients with a history of substance abuse; may cause drowsiness; avoid alcohol and other CNS depressants
