Uses & Indications

Treatment of moderate to severe infections caused by susceptible organisms, including intra-abdominal infections, skin and soft tissue infections, pneumonia, and urinary tract infections.

Storage Requirements

Store at room temperature (20-25°C or 68-77°F). Reconstituted solutions should be used immediately or stored at 2-8°C (36-46°F) for up to 24 hours.

Dosage Information

Adult Dose

3.375 g to 4.5 g (Piperacillin 3 g to 4 g and Tazobactam 0.375 g to 0.5 g) every 6 to 8 hours, depending on the severity of the infection and renal function.

Pediatric Dose

80 to 100 mg/kg/day (Piperacillin) divided every 6 to 8 hours; maximum dose should not exceed 4 g/day.

Side Effects

Common side effects include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, rash, and allergic reactions. Serious side effects may include anaphylaxis, Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea, and renal impairment.

Contraindications & Precautions

Hypersensitivity to piperacillin, tazobactam, or any other penicillin or beta-lactam antibiotics. Caution in patients with a history of severe allergic reactions.

Important Warnings

Use with caution in patients with renal impairment; dosage adjustment may be necessary. Monitor for signs of superinfection and Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea.
