Dosage Information

Adult Dose

200 mg orally every 4 hours, 5 times a day for 10 days for initial genital herpes; for recurrent episodes, 200 mg orally every 4 hours, 5 times a day for 5 days.

Pediatric Dose

For children over 2 years: 200 mg orally every 4 hours, 5 times a day for 10 days for initial genital herpes; for recurrent episodes, 200 mg orally every 4 hours, 5 times a day for 5 days. Dosage for children under 2 years should be determined by a physician.

Side Effects

Common side effects include nausea, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, and fatigue. Rare but serious side effects may include renal toxicity, neurotoxicity, and hypersensitivity reactions.

Contraindications & Precautions
