About Metoclopramide Hydrochloride
Class: | Antiemetic, Prokinetic agent
Use: | Treatment of nausea and vomiting, including that associated with chemotherapy, postoperative recovery, and migraine; also used to facilitate gastric emptying in conditions such as gastroparesis.
Adult dose: | 10 mg taken orally 30 minutes before meals and at bedtime, up to 4 times daily; maximum duration of treatment is generally 12 weeks.
Pediatric dose: | For children aged 0.1 to 0.3 mg/kg/dose (up to a maximum of 10 mg) taken orally 30 minute

Dosage Information
Adult Dose
10 mg taken orally 30 minutes before meals and at bedtime, up to 4 times daily; maximum duration of treatment is generally 12 weeks.
Pediatric Dose
For children aged 0.1 to 0.3 mg/kg/dose (up to a maximum of 10 mg) taken orally 30 minutes before meals and at bedtime, not to exceed 4 doses per day.
Side Effects
Drowsiness, fatigue, restlessness, diarrhea, and extrapyramidal symptoms (e.g., tardive dyskinesia, akathisia).
Contraindications & Precautions
Known hypersensitivity to metoclopramide, gastrointestinal obstruction, perforation, or hemorrhage; pheochromocytoma; history of tardive dyskinesia with metoclopramide; concurrent use with drugs that can cause extrapyramidal symptoms.
Important Warnings
Risk of tardive dyskinesia, especially with long-term use; use with caution in patients with a history of depression or seizure disorders; may cause drowsiness; avoid alcohol and other CNS depressants.
