About Semaglutide

Class: | GLP-1 receptor agonist Use: | Indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus to improve glycemic control in adults, and for weight management in adults with obesity or overweight with at least one weight-related comorbidity. Uses & Indications

Indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus to improve glycemic control in adults, and for weight management in adults with obesity or overweight with at least one weight-related comorbidity.

Storage Requirements

Store in a refrigerator (2°C to 8°C or 36°F to 46°F). Once in use, it can be stored at room temperature (up to 30°C or 86°F) for up to 56 days.

Dosage Information

Adult Dose

Initial dose of 0.25 mg once weekly for 4 weeks; may increase to 0.5 mg once weekly. Further dose adjustments can be made to a maximum of 2 mg once weekly based on glycemic control and tolerability.

Pediatric Dose

Safety and efficacy have not been established in pediatric patients under 18 years of age.

Side Effects

Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain, and decreased appetite.

Contraindications & Precautions

Contraindicated in patients with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2), and in patients with a history of severe hypersensitivity to semaglutide or any of its components.

Important Warnings

Risk of thyroid C-cell tumors, pancreatitis, and renal impairment. Caution is advised in patients with a history of pancreatitis. Not recommended as first-line therapy for diabetes.
