Uses & Indications

Indicated for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus to improve glycemic control in adults, and for weight management in adults with obesity or overweight with at least one weight-related comorbidity.

Storage Requirements

Store in a refrigerator (36°F to 46°F or 2°C to 8°C). Once in use, it can be stored at room temperature (up to 86°F or 30°C) for up to 56 days.

Dosage Information

Adult Dose

Initial dose is 0.25 mg once weekly for 4 weeks; may increase to 0.5 mg once weekly. After at least 4 weeks on 0.5 mg, the dose may be increased to 1 mg once weekly if additional glycemic control is needed.

Pediatric Dose

Safety and efficacy have not been established in pediatric patients under 18 years of age.

Side Effects

Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain, and decreased appetite.

Contraindications & Precautions

Contraindicated in patients with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2), and in patients with a history of serious hypersensitivity reactions to semaglutide or any of its components.

Important Warnings

Risk of thyroid C-cell tumors; pancreatitis; renal impairment; hypoglycemia when used with other antidiabetic medications; and not recommended for use in patients with severe gastrointestinal disease.
